Games for Social Change
IDM 111
Union College
Spring 2010
Homework to prepare for class on Thursday of week 7 (Background research for final project)
- Your game needs to be based on actual historical or political information. That means you need to be well informed about your topic before you begin to design your game. Also remember that everything can be looked at from different perspectives. Look into a variety of different sources from different media channels, different cultural backgrounds, different countries, ... This is also an exercise of opening your minds to the topic and you gaining a better/different understanding of your social issue.
- List at least 4 facts on which your game story could be built. (E.g. the fact on which the game "Hush" is built is that a lot of children got killed in the Ruanda conflict.) Flesh out each of these facts with more background information and details. When? Where? Who? How many? Why? Include references to the sources for your information.
- Upload your document onto the blog. The document should be well-formatted. E.g. it should have a heading, should list all group members, the social issue you are working on, and your verb. Use paragraphs and sections appropriately. Use a style guide for the references. (Documents cannot be attached to comments. You need to log on - use your union login information - and create a new blog post for your group.)
