What if you were given the opportunity to build a computing curriculum from the ground up? What is important for every computer scientist to know? Or should the curriculum even be for computer scientists? Who should we be educating and what should we be teaching them? How can such a curriculum best move us forward?

In this talk, we will consider both these questions and the answers that we came up with in inventing the computing curriculum at the Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering. While the specific circumstances of that project are unique, many of the questions and lessons learned are of broader relevance and we will also explore how similar issues motivate developments in computer science and engineering education nationally and internationally as well as at Union College.

Lunch will be provided in Steinmetz 209 at noon.
