HITIQA (High-Quality Interactive Question Answering) has been conceived as a long term research project to address key challenges for the intelligence community. The project objective is to develop a practical QA system that can substantially assist the analytical process. HITIQA technology represents a radical departure from the "factoid" question answering that has dominated the research landscape until now. HITIQA supports the analyst throughout the entire analytical process associated with an "analytical scenario" by accepting a series of interrelated questions and responding to them in context of the overall information task together with adjunct information uncovered while searching for answers to specific questions. In this talk I will discuss the overall design of the current HITIQA prototype and report on preliminary evaluations with intelligence analysts.

This work is supported by the Advanced Research and Development Activity (ARDA).
